Publication compiling the work of the undeclared Brazilian artist Guilherme Gehrke Maierá.
Exploring the wild side of life, ‘Billy’ is the personification of the contemporary cowboy. Riding fake animals, statues and public spaces around the world, the un-artist gathered over 150 images that were presented in this zine edited by me and produced in collaboration with Meli-Melo Press.
Maierá is actually a friend from my hometown, Uberlândia, Minas Gerais. He comes from a wealthy family that owns a good amount of farms all over the country. Maierá grew up in those farms riding horses. Now, as a young man, he travels all over the world for leisure and often rides statues and other mountable spaces. He register these moments with his phone and gathers them on a Facebook album. All I have done was to put these images together in a way that made sense editorially, plus adding an introduction and some tricks here and there. All done, I just had to publish it.
Highly Dangerous Rides had a great acceptance by the public. It is represented in the US by Printed Matter Inc. and has been featured in the New York Art Book Fair 2013 at MoMA PS1.
